Lakeside
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
Lakeside High School is a public school in unincorporated DeKalb County, Georgia. The school has an Atlanta address. The school is a part of the DeKalb County School System. In the Newsweek Magazine of May 16, 2005 listing of the best 1200 public high schools in the nation, Lakeside came in at 107, the highest in Georgia. In the May 23, 2006 edition of the list, which is based on the number of AP, Advanced Placement and IB, International Baccalaureate tests taken as compared to the number of graduating seniors, Lakeside ranked 135, just below Riverwood High School of Atlanta which ranked 132. Mascot is Vikings and school colors are purple and gold.
Lakeside High School provide activities namely baseball, men's basketball, lady's basketball, cheerleading, cross countrym, gymnastics, football, softball, soccer, swimming and diving, tennis, track, volleyball and wrestling. Academic bowl teams, air force-rotc, art club, band, beta club, book club, drama club and envirothon club.
Lakeside High School believe that The educational curriculum must have a strong consistency in philosophy pervading elementary, middle, and high school to achieve optimal academic success. The curriculum should be varied and challenging and should empower students academically, physically, emotionally, and socially to make positive contributions to society. The educational process should be a proactive effort of the school, the family, and the community, resulting in the development of students who possess self-discipline, self-motivation, self-actualization, and decision-making skills.
Lakeside High School empowers each student to learn and each teacher to teach, in the tradition of excellence and Viking pride, in a dynamic, safe, nurturing, and community-supported environment, with a meaningful and relevant curriculum conducive to developing respect for self and others.
