High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
Lafayette High School, LHS is a Rockwood School District secondary school in Wildwood, Missouri. Lafayette High School is the only high school in Missouri to earn top 10 recognition in all five areas of the MAP test and has 23 National Merit Recognized students for the 2005-2006 school years. It is also a two time Missouri Gold Star School and National Blue Ribbon School. Tim Jones and Matt Deckhouse is the principal of the Lafayette High School.
Lafayette High School opened on September 7, 1960. The original campus consisted of only one small building which dictated activities. Gym classes had to be held in the cafeteria and football games were played on the baseball field. Lafayette got its name from the area it was built in, Ellisville, which was known as Lafayette. Lafayette High School's administration that first year in 1960 consisted of Principal Art Keller, one assistant principal, one guidance counselor, and thirty teachers. The student body was made up of 288 freshmen and sophomores.
Lafayette High School getting National Blue Ribbon School in 2001-2002, National Model Renaissance School, Missouri Gold Star School and Redbook Magazine selection as one of America's Best High Schools these Awards.
The mission of Lafayette High School for the administration, faculty, staff, students, and community is to promote academic excellence by providing opportunities and instruction through which all students can become proficient in literacy and math.
