High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.

Chaparral High School is located in Temecula California. By providing a safe, supportive environment, innovative, exceptional programs and rigorous, relevant educational standards, their mission is to empower students to become life-long learners who are literate, ethical, and responsible citizens embracing challenges as opportunities in the 21st century.

Chaparral High School is a public high school for grades 9 to 12. The school opened in 1998 with a class of Freshmen and Sophomores. It is a California Distinguished School. In 2003 Chaparral had some 2900 students and 120 teachers. Some 5 percent of the students were eligible for free lunch, much lower than the state average of 45 percent. According to Newsweek Magazine, it is listed among the top 1000 schools in the United States of America.

In 2006, new principal Daniel Kenley took the place of former principal Paul Robinson, who left to become a principal in Rancho Bernardo. The school mascot is the Puma. The Chaparral football team progressed to the CIF, California Interscholastic Federation SS Playoffs for the first time in December 2006. They have many sections in academic department like world language, industrial technology, physical education, visual arts, family and consumer science, special education and performing arts.

The goal of the counseling department at Chaparral High School is to assist students with their educational, career and personal and social needs. All students at Chaparral have access to guidance services with an emphasis on educational development and career planning.  These services will result in a four year plan, which identifies educational and career choices and opportunities.
