Madison
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district. Madison High School is part of the San Diego Unified School District and is located in Clairemont, a community of San Diego. It has an enrollment of 1,489 students in grades 9-12. Madison is home to a diverse student population. Sixty-three percent are resident students, 19 percent are part of the Voluntary Ethnic Enrollment Program, VEEP, which pairs Madison with Southeast San Diego schools. It is the mission of James Madison High School to provide all of the students with the tools necessary for lifelong learning. Madison has a rich heritage and is embarking on a number of new ventures that will only add to and enrich the legend. This year is off to a great start for the school. The Ptsa welcomes new administrative team members Principal Carol Whaley, Vice Principal Lenora Smith, and Head Counselor Carol Sobek. With the addition of valuable staff members and continuing Vice Principal Barry Mangan this year’s outlook is confident and bright. James Madison High School is not just a school, but also a community where all are welcomed to continue moving forward to bringing the highest quality education to the students. Madison High School is committed to providing a safe and secure campus environment and a comprehensive program which guarantees intellectual, moral, social, emotional and physical experiences for all students to become critical thinkers, decision makers, effective leaders, academic achievers and responsible citizens in a culturally diverse society.
