High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11 and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
 
Iowa City West High School is a public high school in Iowa City, Iowa. It is currently home to over 1880 students, in grades 9 through 12 and 190 teachers, administration and support staff. The school was established in the year 1968 and the principal was Dr. Jerry Arganbright. The mascot is Trojan or women of troy and the colors are forest green and gold. The enrollment had reached its maximum capacity of over 1800 students recently. The school works with the mission of providing their students equal opportunities to grow along with all round development.
 
West High School provides many musical opportunities to its students. There are multiple classes for band, choir and orchestra. Extracurricular musical activities include select choirs, show choir, jazz band, musicals and others. The students are noted for their excellence in various development aspects. The speech and debate team also has many participants. Recently it has won many state competitions and has placed first or second in the Iowa state forensics tournament for the past eight years.
 
Many West High teams, including academics and sports, have won state championships. The Math club has won state titles in the past. West High School students are noted for excellence in academics and traditionally is one of the leading schools in the state in terms of National merit scholars. A vast majority of the students who take advanced placement exams receive college credit for those classes. It helps the students to acquire knowledge in a unique way resulting in the development of all those values which are essential for future success.
