High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11 and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
 
HBHS, Huntington Beach High School is a secondary school located in Huntington Beach, California which first began operating in its respective city in 1906. Its grades are 9 to 12. Huntington Beach High School principal is David Linzey. The school dress Colors are Black and Orange. This school is part of the Huntington Beach Union High School District, which includes several other area high schools. Their athletic teams are known as the Oilers and the school colors are orange and black. The school is located on Main Street between Utica and Yorktown.
 
Huntington Beach High School originally known as Las Bolsa High School, the school opened in Los Alamitos in 1902 and served as a secondary school for Westminster, Garden Grove, Los Alamitos, Bolsa, New Hope, Fountain Valley, Chica, Ocean View and Springdale elementary districts. In the 1970s, Huntington Beach High School began construction of new facilities.
 
Huntington Beach High School serves as the host campus for the District's magnet arts program, the academy for the performing arts. This school offers only extra curricular major activity includes acting, commercial recording arts, dance, instrumental music, musical theatre, and technical theatre. All mainstage performances are shown in the historic Darrel Stillwagon Auditorium, an Orange County Historical Landmark.

The mission of Huntington Beach High School is to challenge students to maximize their potential as learners, achievers, and productive world citizens. School will offer for all Students rigorous standards based curricula in preparation for advanced educational opportunities, career paths to provide a school to career with employment and higher education, the knowledge and skill necessary to attain optimal health and physical fitness and to maintain both throughout their lives.
