Garden Grove
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
GGHS, Garden Grove high school is located in Garden Grove, California. It is a member of the Garden Grove Unified School District. The school's athletic teams are known as the Argonauts. The Garden Grove Union High School District was established in 1921 in response to attempts by neighboring school districts to annex the Garden Grove area. The school's athletic teams were originally known as Chili Peppers, reflecting the dominant local crop of the time. Later in the 20s, the more dignified Argonauts was chosen.
GGHS was badly damaged by the 1933 Long Beach earthquake the main classroom building suffered a partial collapse and one student was killed. The structure was rebuilt and is still in use as the language arts building This has changed since 2006. It also houses the Argonaut Hall of Fame and Museum, chronicling the school's long history.
The mission of Garden Grove high school is to challenge students to maximize their potential as learners, achievers, and productive world citizens. School will offer for all Students rigorous standards-based curricula in preparation for advanced educational opportunities, career paths to provide a school to career with employment and higher education, the knowledge and skill necessary to attain optimal health and physical fitness and to maintain both throughout their lives.
