Calabasas
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
Calabasas High School is a four-year high school, freshman-senior, in Calabasas, California of the San Fernando Valley. It is one of three high schools in the Las Virgenes Unified School District, as well as the closest high school to the west of the Los Angeles Unified School District. The school was established in 1975. David Jackson is the principal of the school. They have 2,024 students and 9th to 12th grades.
Calabasas High School being in Los Angeles County, it is in the Ventura County sports league. Basketball and tennis are two sports where Calabasas athletes shine. The Calabasas High School varsity football team went winless for the 4th consecutive season and has a 42 game losing streak.
Calabasas High School was ranked 776 in Newsweek's Top 1000 United States High Schools poll. On September 26, 2006, Calabasas High School was awarded the National Blue Ribbon Award, an award that puts the school in the top 3 percent of high schools nationwide. It also boasts being a California Distinguished school and has a renowned theatre, arts and music program.
The mission of Calabasas High School is to educate all students to the highest degree of their individual abilities. Every student is expected to be a critical thinker and problem solver with the ability to comprehend and think through complex issues. This school is highly academic and offers not only several Advanced Placement courses, but a wide variety of athletic and extra curricular opportunities for all students.
