Fort Walton Beach
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
Fort Walton Beach High School was established in 1973. It is one of three comprehensive high schools in the greater Fort Walton Beach area. It is located on the Gulf of Mexico in Northwest Florida, the community's population numbers over 171,000 and has an abundance of jobs, low taxes and an enviable year round climate. Okaloosa County is home to two of the largest military installations in the free world Eglin and Hurlburt Air Force Bases. They attract a large number of defense industries and government contractors to their area. Their student population is made up of ethnically, racially, and socio-economically diverse students.
In Fort Walton Beach High School, all students learn but at different rates and in different ways. Students must be provided extra time for learning. Students will develop behavioral, social, and intellectual skills to be successful in an ever-changing and diverse society. All graduates will have the confidence and self direction to become life long learners. Education should be personalized to meet the individual needs of each student.
Fort Walton Beach High School has been awarded an A plus rating in 2003, 2005 and 2006 by the Florida Department of Education.
They focus on training students for particular careers and then placing them in successful careers after graduation. They have a devoted team of staff and instructors ready and willing to help you from enrollment to 10 to 12 grades. Their mission is to prepare each graduate for both a career and post-secondary education or training.
