Edison
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
Edison High School is a secondary school located in Huntington Beach, California which first began operation in 1969. It is a part of the Huntington Beach Union High School District, which includes numerous other area high schools. Their athletic teams are known as the Chargers and the school colors are green and gold. It was built on land donated by Southern California Edison, when its name is derived. D'liese Melendrez is the Principal of the school.
The Huntington Beach Union High School Board of Trustees officially dedicated Edison High School in early 1969. Edison High School, three blocks from the Pacific Ocean was designed to serve the rapid growing population of Huntington Beach. The school has green and gold colors to represent one of the finest new schools in California.
Edison High School continued to grow and serve the community in a variety of ways. The 1990’s introduced a new era for the Edison High School community in which Edison continued to offer and develop a variety of academic opportunities and co-curricular activities. Along with unique clubs and organizations, Edison offered an award winning musical program that gave support and performed in highly competitive performances. The 21st century has allowed Edison High School to continue an innovative approach to a broadly based secondary educational experience.
