Eastside High School
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
Eastside High School is a public school in East Gainesville, Florida, USA. It was opened in 1970 and is managed by the Alachua County School District, Florida. As of 2006, the school has a student population of approximately 1900. It is located in an economically underdeveloped neighborhood, and is home to two magnet programs are the Institute of Culinary Arts and the area's only International Baccalaureate program. Current principal of the school is Jeff Charbonnet.
Eastside High School is located on the east side of the City of Gainesville and has a student membership of over 1900 during the 2005 and 2006 school year. Eastside High School is a diverse school that houses three magnet programs the Institute of Culinary Arts, the International Baccalaureate program, and the Entrepreneurship program as well as a standard education program for all students who attend Eastside.
Eastside High school hosts over 40 clubs and organizations that compete at the local, state, and national levels. Organizations like Mu Alpha Theta, Robotics, Key Club, Future Business Leaders of Amer ica, Spanish Club, French Club, Debate and Speech, and Brain Bowl have all competed at these levels and taken home many titles. Athletics is also widespread at Eastside High School. Sports teams compete and perform at the highest levels from football to baseball and tennis.
Eastside High School has a total of twenty-one different athletic sports. There are ten female sports and eleven male sports with both a junior varsity and varsity level team. Some of the sports even have a freshmen team such as girl’s soccer and boy’s basketball. All athletics compete in FSHAA approved sporting events. There is men’s tackle football, girl’s volleyball, baseball, softball and boys and girls sports in cross country, golf, swimming, basketball, soccer, weightlifting, wrestling, tennis, and track. The sports are divided into fall, winter, and spring sport schedules. Football, volleyball, girls and boys cross country, golf, and swimming make up the fall sports.
