Arcadia
High school is a name used in some parts of the world, and particularly in North America, to describe the last segment of compulsory secondary education. It is preceded by primary education. High school is also the name used to describe the institution in which the final stage of compulsory education takes place. In the United States, high schools generally consist of grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, although the inclusion of grade 9 varies by school district.
Arcadia High School is a part of the Arcadia Unified School District and is a four-year comprehensive secondary school located on a 40 acre site within the city of Arcadia, California. The school was first opened in 1952, and later incorporated the ninth grade into the school in 1994. The incoming freshman class consists of students who graduated from Arcadia’s three middle schools. As of 2004, the average annual enrollment was approximately 3,800 students.
Arcadia High School principal is Mr. David Vannasdall. The school has 9-12 grades. Arcadia High School has a teaching staff of 161. Six hold doctorate degrees and 89 have earned masters degrees. The administrative staff consists of the principal, three assistant principals, and two deans of students. Arcadia High School consists of many extracurricular activities including clubs, video production, journalism, yearbook, robotics, academic teams and performing arts groups. Its academic teams and performing arts groups consistently rank in the top of Southern California or, in some instances, the world.
The school athletics includes many sports like Baseball, basketball, cross-country, football, golf, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track and field, volleyball, water polo. The Constitution team qualified for the State finals for the 19 consecutive years. The science bowl team won the JPL regional in 1996, 1997, 1998, and 2003 and thus qualified for the national tournament in each of those years. The quiz bowl team qualified for the NAQT HS national championship tournament in 2002, 2006 and 2007.
The school won many awards in 2004-2005 they won the constitution team placed 4th in the state competition and the World Guard Placed 5th at WGI World Championships. In 2005-2006 won the World Guard placed third at WGI World Championships and first at WGASC championship and in 2006-2007 won the constitution team won its 19th consecutive regional competition.
