Alexis. I. duPont High School Located at Greenville, Alexis. duPont High School was founded in 1893. Originally housed at 3130 Kennett Pike, the school moved to its present location in 1966. Alexis I. duPont School District is one of four high schools in the Red Clay Consolidated School District. Built on a tradition of excellence, Alexis I. duPont High School welcomes the challenges of the twenty-first century. Golder, Sam is the principal of the school and Pruitt, Mark is the assistant principal. Alexis I. du Pont High School, recognizing the diverse cultural and economic backgrounds from which its students come, dedicates itself to providing programs to enhance the intellectual, moral, social and physical growth of students. The school functions in partnership with a home and community of intricate and changing nature. In order to achieve its goals and objectives, the school provides an orderly environment which enables independent and responsible behavior.
 
Ultimately, the school prepares students to assume productive roles in a society of increasing complexity. The overall curriculum endeavors to prepare each learner for social, civic and political accountability. It is recognized by Newsweek Magazine in 2003 and 2005 as one of America's Top Public High Schools. A.I. has experienced consistent growth in state test scores, advanced placement enrollment and other areas of academic achievement as they strive to continue their tradition of academic excellence. Alexis. I. duPont High School offers different types of programs such as exemplary programs, advanced placement, visual and performing arts, business education and foreign language. Additional electives that is accounting, business economics, keyboarding and word processing and computer software applications are recommended for those electing other career options.
 
The foreign language department offers four years of French, German, Latin and Spanish. It is recommended that the study of a single language should continue for at least three or four years to ensure a degree of proficiency. During the 2005-2006 school year, A.I. students earned 27 AP Scholars, 8 AP Scholars with Honors, 18 AP Scholars with Distinction, and 1 National AP Scholar awards. This area of the instructional program offers students a variety of electives from which to choose. Visual arts courses provide instruction in both fundamental design and advanced portfolio development. The mission of the high school is to implement and maintain an instructional program which addresses the needs and interests of a diverse student population in a safe and secure learning environment.
