The United States is a federal constitutional republic, with its capital in Washington, D.C., District of Columbia. Reading is the county seat of Berks County, Pennsylvania. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 10.1 square miles 9.8 square miles of it is land and 0.2 square meter of it is water. In the city the population was spread out with 29.9 percent under the age of 18, 11.7 percent from 18 to 24, 28.9 percent from 25 to 44, 17.0 percent from 45 to 64, and 12.4 percent who were 65 years of age or older.
