The United States of America is a country in North America that extends from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean and shares land borders with Canada and Mexico. The United States is a federal constitutional republic, with its capital in Washington, D.C., District of Columbia.

Morganton is a city in Burke County, North Carolina, United States. Reader's Digest included Morganton in its list of top ten places to raise a family, and the town was recently profiled in The 50 best small southern towns. The population was 17,310 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Burke County.

While Morganton itself may lack entertainment, it is close enough to the mountains to provide plenty of outdoor activities. Twenty minutes outside of Morganton is pristine Lake James, a beautiful lake surrounded by the majestic Blue Ridge Mountains. The lake offers an abundance of summertime recreation that includes fishing, boating, canoeing, and camping. There are multiple ski areas located approximately an hour from Morganton and these ski areas include, but are not limited to, Ski Beech, Sugar Mountain, and Hawks Nest. The most attractive quality of Morganton may be its small town atmosphere with a central location to the major shopping centers of Boone, Hickory, Asheville, and Charlotte.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 47.0 square kilometers, all land. In the city the population was spread out with 21.1 percent under the age of 18, 8.5 percent from 18 to 24, 29.3 percent from 25 to 44, 22.5 percent from 45 to 64, and 18.5 percent who were 65 years of age or older.

Morganton experiences a boom with day tourists, owing to the clear air, city character with rich culture, high quality of life and conspicuously original history. The picturesque scenery, the majesty of nature, the slow pace of life, and the welcoming nature of its people also combine to make this region one of the most important tourist attractions in United States.
