Milledgeville is a city in Baldwin County in the U.S. state of Georgia. It is the county seat of Baldwin County. It is northeast of Macon, between Eatonton and Hardwick along U.S. Highway 441 on the banks of the Oconee River. It was the capital of Georgia for some time, notably during the civil war. The population was 18,757 at the 2000 census. Milledgeville was named after Georgia governor John Milledge, and was laid out at the start of the 19th century to be the new centrally located capital of the State of Georgia. It served as the state capital from 1804 to 1868.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 52.4 square kilometers. In the city the population was spread out with 16.0 percent under the age of 18, 20.9 percent from 18 to 24, 32.3 percent from 25 to 44, 19.6 percent from 45 to 64, and 11.2 percent who were 65 years of age or older.
