The United States of America is a country in North America that extends from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean and shares land borders with Canada and Mexico. The United States is a federal constitutional republic, with its capital in Washington, D.C., District of Columbia.
Madison is the capital city of the United States of Wisconsin and the county seat of Dane County. Madison is also home to the University of Wisconsin-Madison. As of a 2005 census projection, Madison had a population of 221,551, making it the second largest city in Wisconsin, after Milwaukee, and the 77th largest in the United States.
Madison was created in 1836 when a former federal judge named James Duane Doty purchased over a thousand acres of swamp and forest land on the isthmus between Lakes Mendota and Monona within the Four Lakes region, with the intention of building a new city on the site. Wisconsin Territory had been created earlier in the year, and the territorial legislature had convened in Belmont, Wisconsin. One of the legislature's tasks was to choose a permanent location for the territory's capital city.
Madison is located in the center of Dane County in central southern Wisconsin, 77 miles west of Milwaukee. Madison is also located 122 miles northwest of Chicago. The city completely surrounds the smaller Town of Madison, as well as the villages Maple Bluff and Shorewood Hills and the city of Monona. Madison shares borders with its largest suburb, Middleton, and three other communities, McFarland, Sun Prairie, and Fitchburg. The city's boundaries also approach the villages of Verona and Waunakee.
In the city the population was spread out with 17.9 percent under the age of 18, 21.4 percent from 18 to 24, 32.2 percent from 25 to 44, 19.3 percent from 45 to 64, and 9.2 percent who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 31 years. For every 100 females there were 96.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.0 males.

Madison is definitely one of the popular tourist attractions in United States worth paying a visit while touring the country. This place leaves a pleasing and unforgettable memory and justifies the proud cultural tradition of United States.
