The United States of America is a country in North America that extends from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean and shares land borders with Canada and Mexico. The United States is a federal constitutional republic, with its capital in Washington, D.C., District of Columbia.

Punta Gorda is a city in Charlotte County, Florida, United States. It is the principal city of and is included in the Punta Gorda, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 14,344 at the 2000 census. As of 2004, the population recorded by the U.S. Census Bureau is 17,215. It is the county seat of Charlotte County. Punta Gorda was the scene of massive destruction after Hurricane Charley, a Category 4 hurricane, came through the city on August 13, 2004. Charley was the worst tropical system to hit Florida since Hurricane Andrew in 1992.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 47.9 square kilometers. 36.7 square kilometers of it is land and 11.2 square kilometers of it 23.32 percent is water.

Punta Gorda is in the midst of major community revitalization and beautification efforts. With historic preservation as a priority, the City has secured State historic district status. Their  City streetscape program is restoring an old Florida atmosphere to central district streets by the addition of brick lanes, decorative street lamps, benches, planters, flowers and shade trees. Residential areas feature many brick streets lined with huge old royal palms and old Florida era tin roofed homes with verandas.

Punta Gorda offers waterfront shopping areas to complement their growing downtown, as well as neighborhood shopping venues throughout the City. Their  soon-to-be-completed City Marina, and other private marinas make Punta Gorda a convenient and exciting destination for boaters and tourists throughout Southwest Florida.

Punta Gorda is definitely one of the popular tourist attractions in United States worth paying a visit while touring the country. This place leaves a pleasing and unforgettable memory and justifies the proud cultural tradition of United States.
