Lamesa is a city in Dawson County, Texas, United States. It is the county seat of Dawson County. It is located south of Lubbock on the Llano Estacado. Lamesa was founded in 1903. Most of the economy is based on cattle and cotton. The name of the city is pronounced la MEE sa instead of the Spanish la MAY sa. Dawson County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas.
 
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 12.4 square kilometers. In the city the population was spread out with 29.7 percent under the age of 18, 8.0 percent from 18 to 24, 24.4 percent from 25 to 44, 20.4 percent from 45 to 64, and 17.4 percent who were 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females there were 90.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 83.3 males.
