Lake Charles
The United States of America is a country in North America that extends from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean and shares land borders with Canada and Mexico. The United States is a federal constitutional republic, with its capital in Washington, D.C., District of Columbia.
Lake Charles is the fifth largest city in the US state of Louisiana. It is the parish seat of Calcasieu Parish and is the urban center of the southwest region of the state. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 71,757 inhabitants. The total area of the city was 110.2 square kilometers and its population density was 689.7 per square kilometers.
Lake Charles is known as the Festival Capital of Louisiana with over 75 festivals held annually in the Lake Charles area. The city is a major petrochemical refining center, gaming center with three riverboat casinos, and home to McNeese State University. According to the United States census bureau, the city has a total area of 110.2 square kilometers.
In the city the population was spread out with 25.5 percent under the age of 18, 11.5 percent from 18 to 24, 26.9 percent from 25 to 44, 21.4 percent from 45 to 64, and 14.7 percent who were 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females there were 90.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.0 males.
Lake Charles has several small museums and other cultural facilities such as the Central School Arts and Humanities Center, the Children's Museum of Lake Charles, the Imperial Calcasieu Museum, and the Mardi Gras Museum. Lake Charles is also known as the city of best geographical environment and has traced its origins back to prehistoric times. Today, one can also learn about its history, from its earliest times and can also enjoy its natural beauty concealed by the beautiful landscapes.
