Youngstown is a municipality located in Mahoning County, Ohio, 65 miles southeast of Cleveland and about 62 miles northwest of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The city is located on the Mahoning River. In 2000, the population of the city was 82,026 and an area of 88.7 square kilometers, making it Ohio's eighth largest city. The Youngstown City Schools manages all public education within the city. Youngstown State University is the primary institution of higher learning in the Youngstown-Warren metropolitan area. Youngstown's most widely known museum is the Butler Institute of American Art, the first museum in the country dedicated solely to American art.
