Wisconsin Rapids is a municipality in Wood County, Wisconsin, United States. In 2000, the population of the city was 18,435 and an area of 36.5 square kilometers. It is the county seat of Wood County. The city forms one of the core areas of the United States Census Bureau's Marshfield-Wisconsin Rapids Micropolitan Statistical Area, which includes all of Wood County. Known for its papermaking manufacturing history, Wisconsin Rapids is also a significant locale for the cranberry industry. Additionally, Wisconsin Rapids is the corporate home of the international educational software company, Renaissance Learning.
In the city the population was spread out with 24.7 percent under the age of 18, 8.5 percent from 18 to 24, 27.5 percent from 25 to 44, 19.8 percent from 45 to 64, and 19.4 percent who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 90.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.2 males.
