Kirksville is a city in Adair County, Missouri, United States. The population was 16,988 inhabitants at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Adair County. Kirksville also anchors a micropolitan area that is comprised of Adair and Schuyler counties. The population of the city was 17,057 inhabitants in the year 2004 with an area of 27.2 square kilometers.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 27.2 square kilometers. In the city the population was spread out with 15.6 percent under the age of 18, 37.6 percent from 18 to 24, 20.5 percent from 25 to 44, 14.4 percent from 45 to 64, and 12.0 percent who were 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females there were 82.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 78.5 males.
