Tupelo
The United States of America is a country in North America that extends from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean and shares land borders with Canada and Mexico. The United States is a federal constitutional republic, with its capital in Washington, D.C., District of Columbia.
Tupelo, birthplace of Elvis Presley and the seventh largest city in Mississippi, is located in northeast Mississippi between Memphis, Tennessee and Birmingham, Alabama. Tupelo is the county seat of Lee County, and its population was 34,211 during the 2000 census. The town was originally named Gum Pond prior to the American Civil War, supposedly due to the high number of tupelo trees, locally known as sweetgum, that grow in the area. The city still hosts the Gumtree Arts Festival each year. In the post-Civil War era, Tupelo became the northern Mississippi site for the crossing of a railroad, which brought industry to the town, establishing it as the center of commerce in the northern part of the state.
Tupelo is located at the United States Census Bureau. The city has a total area of 133.2 square kilometers. 132.4 square kilometers of it is land and 0.8 square kilometers of it is water, in northeast Mississippi, north of Columbus, on Highway 78 mid way between Memphis, Tennessee and Birmingham, Alabama. In the city the population was spread out with 27.5 percent under the age of 18, 8.1 percent from 18 to 24, 30.5 percent from 25 to 44, 21.4 percent from 45 to 64, and 12.4 percent who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 88.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 82.6 males.
Tupelo is definitely one of the popular tourist attractions. It is worth paying a visit while touring the country. This place leaves a pleasing and unforgettable memory and justifies the proud cultural tradition also.
