Peoria is city on the Illinois River and the county seat of Peoria County, Illinois, in the United States. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 112,936 inhabitants. The Greater Peoria Metro area, including suburbs and surrounding, has a population of 370,000 inhabitants. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 120.8 square kilometers. The population density was 982.1 per square kilometers. There were 49,125 housing units at an average density of 427.2 per square kilometers.
 
In the city the population was spread out, with 25.7 percent under the age of 18, 12.0 percent from 18 to 24, 27.2 percent from 25 to 44, 20.8 percent from 45 to 64, and 14.2 percent who were 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females, there were 89.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 85.0 males.
