Kalamazoo
The United States of America is a country in North America that extends from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean and shares land borders with Canada and Mexico. The United States is a federal constitutional republic, with its capital in Washington, D.C., District of Columbia.
Kalamazoo is a city in the southwest area of the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 77,145 inhabitants. It is the county seat of Kalamazoo County. Kalamazoo is home to Western Michigan University, a nationally recognized research institution that has benefited from the local presence of Pfizer and Stryker Corporation.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 65.2 square kilometers. To the south is its largest suburb, Portage, Michigan, which includes the largest collection of major stores in the area. It is located approximately halfway between Detroit and Chicago. In the city the population was spread out with 20.3 percent under the age of 18, 27.6 percent from 18 to 24, 26.8 percent from 25 to 44, 15.2 percent from 45 to 64, and 10.1 percent who were 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females there were 93.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.9 males.
Kalamazoo experiences a boom with day tourists, owing to the clear air, town character with rich culture, high quality of life and conspicuously original history. The picturesque scenery, the majesty of nature, the slow pace of life, and the welcoming nature of its people also combine to make this region one of the most important tourist attractions in United States.
