Sylacauga
The United States of America is a country in North America that extends from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean and shares land borders with Canada and Mexico. The United States is a federal constitutional republic, with its capital in Washington, D.C., District of Columbia.
Sylacauga is a city in Talladega County, Alabama, United States. At the 2000 census the population was 12,616. The first documented case of an object from outer space hitting a person happened in Sylacauga. On November 30, 1954, a 4 kilogram meteorite crashed through the roof of a house, bounced off a radio, and badly bruised Ann Hodges. It is the birthplace of actor and singer Jim Nabors and actor Jonathan Bearden.
Sylacauga is known for some of the whitest marble in the world. Giuseppe Moretti, sculptor of the Vulcan statue in Birmingham, Alabama, praised it as rivaling the marble in Carrera, Italy. Sylacauga marble was used in the construction of the United States Supreme Court building and several other monuments and buildings around the
country.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 48.3 square kilometers. 48.0 square kilometers of it is land and 0.3 square kilometers of it is water. Sylacauga is known for some of the whitest marble in the world. In the city the population was spread out with 25.0 percent under the age of 18, 8.3 percent from 18 to 24, 25.9 percent from 25 to 44, 22.2 percent from 45 to 64, and 18.6 percent who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 81.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 77.0 males.
Today, one can also learn about its history, from its earliest times and gain enthusiasm in its natural beauty and populace. Sylacauga enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers.
