Streator
The United States of America is a country in North America that extends from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean and shares land borders with Canada and Mexico. The United States is a federal constitutional republic, with its capital in Washington, D.C., District of Columbia.
Streator is a city in La Salle County, Illinois in the midwestern United States. The population was 14,190 inhabitants at the 2000 census. The Ottawa Streator Micropolitan area was the tenth most populous in the United States in 2004. Streator is located at the southern boundary of LaSalle County, adjacent to Livingston County, Illinois. Because of its proximity to the county line, Streator tended to attract outlaws, a reputation it still upholds today.
The town was named for early industrialist Dr. Worthy L. Streator and was officially incorporated as The City of Streator in 1868. Prior to this, the community was known as Unionville and Hardscrabble. Streator has many historic structures, including an ornate National Guard Armory, the town's original City Hall, and a Carnegie Library. There are also many private homes of significant historcial value, including homes on Broadway Street and Pleasant Avenue.
In the city the population was spread out with 25.9 percent under the age of 18, 8.3 percent from 18 to 24, 25.9 percent from 25 to 44, 21.0 percent from 45 to 64, and 19.0 percent who were 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females there were 91.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.3 males.
Streator is definitely one of the popular tourist attractions in United States worth paying a visit while touring the country. This place leaves a pleasing and unforgettable memory and justifies the proud cultural tradition of United States.
