Spartanburg

Spartanburg is a city in and the county seat of Spartanburg County in South Carolina, a state of the United States of America, and is the second largest city of the three primary cities in the Upstate region. Spartanburg's population was 39,673 inhabitants at the 2000 census. It is the principal city of the Spartanburg Metropolitan Statistical Area which is included in the greater Greenville-Spartanburg-Anderson Combined Statistical Area. The total area of the city was 49.9 square kilometers and its population density was 399.9 per square kilometers.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 49.9 square kilometers. The 49.6 square kilometers of it is land and 0.2 square kilometers of it 0.47 percent is water. In the city the population was spread out with 25.2 percent under the age of 18, 12.2 percent from 18 to 24, 26.6 percent from 25 to 44, 20.6 percent from 45 to 64, and 15.4 percent who were 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females there were 79.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 73.9 males.
