Hemet is a Riverside County in California, United States. In 2000, the population of the city was 58,812 and an area of 66.4 square kilometers. Since the early 1970s, Hemet has produced several United States shuffleboard champions, including Richard Sisk, Scott McCegran and Lee Osuch. The city of Hemet was incorporated in January 1910. Served by a railroad spur from Riverside, the city became a trading center for the San Jacinto Valley's agriculture, which included citrus, apricots, peaches, olives and walnuts. 
 
In the city the population was spread out with 22.6 percent under the age of 18, 7.2 percent from 18 to 24, 20.6 percent from 25 to 44, 16.6 percent from 45 to 64, and 33.1 percent who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 45 years. For every 100 females there were 84.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 79.6 males.
