Sedalia

Sedalia is a city located in Pettis County, Missouri, at the intersection of U.S. Pettis County is a county located in the U.S. state of Missouri. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 20,339 inhabitants. It is the county seat of Pettis County and the largest city near Whiteman Air Force Base. As of 2005, its estimated population was 20,430 inhabitants. The Sedalia Micropolitan Statistical Area consists of Pettis County.
Sedalia has a typical temperate climate. The area that became Sedalia was founded by General George R. Smith in 1857 with the name Sedville. Until it was incorporated in 1860 as Sedalia, the city existed only on paper. General Smith would later go on to found nearby Smithton, Missouri. Sedalia was also an important railhead for the Texas cattle drive of 1866. Sedalia has an unofficial sister city, McComb, Mississippi.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 31 square kilometers. In the city the population is spread out with 24.7 percent under the age of 18, 10.8 percent from 18 to 24, 27.7 percent from 25 to 44, 19.4 percent from 45 to 64, and 17.4 percent who are 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females there are 90.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 86.3 males.
Sedalia experiences a boom with day tourists, owing to the clear air, town character with rich culture, high quality of life and conspicuously original history. The picturesque scenery, the majesty of nature, the slow pace of life, and the welcoming nature of its people also combine to make this region one of the most important tourist attractions in United States.
