Gaithersburg
The United States of America is a country in North America that extends from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean and shares land borders with Canada and Mexico. The United States is a federal constitutional republic, with its capital in Washington, D.C., District of Columbia.
Gaithersburg is a city in Montgomery County, Maryland. As of 2004, the city had an estimated total population of 58,091, making it the second largest in the state. Gaithersburg was incorporated in 1878.
Gaithersburg is home to the neo-traditionalist new town of Kentlands, Maryland, designed by Andrés Duany and Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk, which was an important early example of the new urbanism movement. Other new urbanist communities in Gaithersburg include Lakelands, the Washingtonian Center, Crown Farm and Watkins Mill Town Center.
Gaithersburg began in 1765 as a small agricultural settlement known as Log Town. In 1850, the post office was named Forest Oak. The town officially became Gaithersburg when it was incorporated on April 5, 1878, five years after the B&O Railroad built a station there.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 26.3 square kilometers. In the city the population was spread out with 25.0 percent under the age of 18, 9.0 percent from 18 to 24, 37.7 percent from 25 to 44, 20.0 percent from 45 to 64, and 8.2 percent who were 65 years of age or older.
Gaithersburg is also known as the city of best geographical environment and has traced its origins back to prehistoric times. Today, one can also learn about its history, from its earliest times and can also enjoy its natural beauty concealed by the beautiful landscapes.
