Gaffney is a city in Cherokee County, South Carolina, United States. As of the 2005 estimate, the city population was 13,149. It is the county seat of Cherokee County. It is the principal city of the Gaffney, South Carolina Micropolitan Statistical Area, an which includes all of Cherokee County and which is further included in the greater Greenville-Spartanburg-Anderson, South Carolina Combined Statistical Area.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 20.4 square kilometers. 20.4 square kilometers of it is land and 0.1 square kilometers of it is water. In the city the population was spread out with 23.4 percent under the age of 18, 10.8 percent from 18 to 24, 25.7 percent from 25 to 44, 22.6 percent from 45 to 64, and 17.5 percent who were 65 years of age or older.
