San Marcos is a municipality located in the northern portion of San Diego County, California, United States. In 2000, the population of the city was 54,977 and an area of 61.7 square kilometers. It is best known as the home of California State University, San Marcos. San Marcos is a community located in San Diego's north county with many strong businesses, churches, non-profit organizations, public schools and a social life. 
 
In the city the population was spread out with 29.1 percent under the age of 18, 9.4 percent from 18 to 24, 32.3 percent from 25 to 44, 17.3 percent from 45 to 64, and 11.9 percent who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females there were 98.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.3 males. San Marcos is known for having some of the best restaurants in North County. San Marcos features several golf courses, notably Lake San Marcos itself a recreational venue.  

A city known for its historic myths and traditions, scenic beauty, cooperative people and luxurious hotels and cottages, San Marcos is one of the favorite holiday destinations for most of the vacation lovers.
