Safford is a municipality in Graham County, Arizona, United States. In 2005, the population of the city was 8,932 and an area of 20.6 square kilometers. The city is the county seat of Graham County. Safford was founded by pioneers, who came from Gila Bend, in southwestern Arizona. The city of Safford was incorporated on October 10, 1901 and changed to city of Safford in 1955.

In the city the population was spread out with 30.2 percent under the age of 18, 9.5 percent from 18 to 24, 24.4 percent from 25 to 44, 19.2 percent from 45 to 64, and 16.7 percent who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 91.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 84.2 males. Safford has its own school district, Safford Unified School District. It serves the entire city of Safford and some minor outlying areas.
