Muskegon

Muskegon is a municipality in the U.S. state of Michigan. In 2000, the population of the city was 40,105 and an area of 46.7 square kilometers. The city is the county seat of Muskegon County, Michigan. The city is located at the southwest corner of Muskegon Township, but is politically independent. Muskegon is the greater populated of two principal cities of and included in the Muskegon-Norton Shores, Michigan Metropolitan Statistical Area. Muskegon is the biggest city on the eastern shores of Lake Michigan.
In the city the population was spread out with 25.8 percent under the age of 18, 11.6 percent from 18 to 24, 32.2 percent from 25 to 44, 18.0 percent from 45 to 64, and 12.4 percent who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females there were 109.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 110.3 males. Presently the city of Muskegon is experiencing an economic and commercial revitalization. Due to this, retail shopping is experiencing a major shift.
