Eugene
The United States of America is a country in North America that extends from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean and shares land borders with Canada and Mexico. The United States is a federal constitutional republic, with its capital in Washington, D.C., District of Columbia.
The city of Eugene is located at the south end of the Willamette Valley, at the confluence of the McKenzie and Willamette rivers, about 100 kilometers east of the Oregon Coast. Eugene is the third largest city estimated population of 146,160 inhabitants as of 2005 and has the third largest metropolitan population in the state of Oregon. Eugene had long been the state's second largest city after Portland, but was overtaken by Salem in terms of population around 2004.
Eugene is named after its founder, Eugene Franklin Skinner. In 1846, Skinner erected the first cabin in the area. It was used as a trading post and was dubbed as a post office in 1850. In the city, the population was spread out with 20.3 percent under the age of 18, 17.3 percent from 18 to 24, 28.5 percent from 25 to 44, 21.8 percent from 45 to 64, and 12.1 percent who were 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females, there were 96.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.0 males.
Eugene experiences a boom with day tourists, owing to the clear air, town character with rich culture, high quality of life and conspicuously original history. The picturesque scenery, the majesty of nature, the slow pace of life, and the welcoming nature of its people also combine to make this region one of the most important tourist attractions in United States.
