Corning
The United States of America is a country in North America that extends from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean and shares land borders with Canada and Mexico. The United States is a federal constitutional republic, with its capital in Washington, D.C., District of Columbia. Corning is a municipality in Steuben County, New York, United States, on the Chemung River. In 2000, the population of the city was 10,842 and an area of 8.5 square kilometers. The city of Corning is at the western edge of the town of Corning and in the southeast part of Steuben County. The city is the headquarters of Fortune 500 Company Corning, formerly Corning Glass Works, a manufacturer of glass and ceramic products for industrial, scientific and technical uses. The first settlement in the town was made near the site of the future city in 1796. In the city the population was spread out with 23.3 percent under the age of 18, 8.6 percent from 18 to 24, 29.2 percent from 25 to 44, 21.1 percent from 45 to 64, and 17.8 percent who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 87.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 83.5 males. Corning is the kind of town you daydream about.
