Bowling Green
The United States of America is a country in North America that extends from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean and shares land borders with Canada and Mexico. The United States is a federal constitutional republic, with its capital in Washington, D.C., District of Columbia.
Bowling Green is the county seat of Wood County, Ohio. At the time of the United States Census, 2000, the population of Bowling Green was 29,636. Bowling Green is the home of the Black Swamp Arts Festival. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 26.4 square kilometers. 26.3 square kilometers of it is land and 0.1 square kilometers of it is water.
Bowling Green was first settled in 1832, was incorporated as a town in 1855, and became a city in 1904. Bowling Green was settled by the Martindales, Thurstins, Moores, Hollingtons, Shivelys, Walkers, Stauffers, Richards, Tracys, Hartmans, Booths, Mackies, Manvilles and Saint Johns'families. In the late 19th century and early 20th century Bowling Green experienced a boom with the discovery of oil.
In the city the population was spread out with 13.1 percent under the age of 18, 46.6 percent from 18 to 24, 19.5 percent from 25 to 44, 13.2 percent from 45 to 64, and 7.6 percent who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 22 years. For every 100 females there were 87.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 85.4 males.
Bowling Green has hosted the National Tractor Pulling Championships since 1967. This annual event, one of the largest in the nation, is held at the Wood County Fairgrounds and draws an estimated 60,000 people. The Fairgrounds is located on along Poe Road between Haskins Road and Brim Road.
Today, one can also learn about its history, from its earliest times and gain enthusiasm in its natural beauty and populace. Bowling Green enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers.
