Coos Bay
The United States of America is a country in North America that extends from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean and shares land borders with Canada and Mexico. The United States is a federal constitutional republic, with its capital in Washington, D.C., District of Columbia.
Coos Bay is a city located in Coos County, Oregon. In 2000, the population of the city was 15,374 and an area of 41.3 square kilometers. The city is located at the mouth of the Coos River on Coos Bay on the Pacific Ocean and borders on the nearby city of North Bend. Together, the cities are often referred to as one entity, called either Coos Bay or the Bay Area. Coos Bay is also home to Southwestern Oregon Community College.
The Bay Area is known for its wonderful recreation. Its most popular and unique recreation opportunity is the Oregon Dunes National Recreational Area, which brings about 1.5 million visitors each year. In the city the population is spread out with 22.6 percent under the age of 18, 9.2 percent from 18 to 24, 25.2 percent from 25 to 44, 23.8 percent from 45 to 64, and 19.2 percent who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 94.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 90.8 males.
