Guaynabo
The United States of America is a country in North America that extends from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean and shares land borders with Canada and Mexico. The United States is a federal constitutional republic, with its capital in Washington, D.C., District of Columbia.
Guaynabo is a municipality in the northern part of Puerto Rico located in the northern coast of the island, north of Aguas Buenas; south of Cataño; east of Bayamon and west of San Juan. Guaynabo is spread over 9 wards and Guaynabo Pueblo. Guaynabo is considered, along with neighbors San Juan and the municipalities of Bayamón, Carolina, Cataro, Toa Alta, Canovanas, Caguas, Toa Baja and Trujillo Alto to be one of the cities of the Área Metropolitana of San Juan. The municipio has a land area of 70.26 square kilometers and a population of 100,053 as of the 2000 census.
Guaynabo was founded in 1769, after a struggle to be divided from the municipality of Bayamon. Previously, the city was known as Buinabo, name that means in Taino He aqui otro lugar de agua dulce.
Guaynabo Mayor is a Hector O'Neill García. Long considered to be just a mostly rural, drive-by town for drivers who were going from San Juan to the western part of Puerto Rico, Guaynabo went through a large economic revitalization in the 1950s and 1960's.
Guaynabo Landmarks and places of interest are Baldorioty de Castro Statue and Bellas Artes Center. Festivals and events is a Three Reyes Festival, Mabo Carnival and many more. Today, one can also learn about its history, from its earliest times and gain enthusiasm in its natural beauty and populace. It enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers.
