Greenwood

Greenwood is a city in Greenwood County, South Carolina, in the United States. As of the 2000 census, the city population was 22,071. It is the county seat of Greenwood County. According to the United States census bureau, the city has a total area of 35.5 square kilometers. 35.5 square kilometers of it is land and 0.07 percent is water.
In the city the population was spread out with 24.7 percent under the age of 18, 15.2 percent from 18 to 24, 27.3 percent from 25 to 44, 17.6 percent from 45 to 64, and 15.2 percent who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females there were 86.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 82.5 males.
Every year in June, Greenwood plays host to the South Carolina Festival of Flowers. Park Seed Corporation, located in Greenwood and one of the largest gardening companies in the world, plays a large part in the Emerald City's ability to host this event. The Festival encompasses far more than just a standard flower festival, and has also included Jazz concerts, Cessna flights for children, world food, a showcase for classic cars, and even a dog show. Greenwood contains Self Regional Hospital, one of the largest in the area. Self is known for their high quality Vascular surgery system, Cancer Center, Heart Center, and Neurosurgery among many other things. They offer a Level III Emergency Care Center, which is open 24 hours per day. Today, one can also learn about its history, from its earliest times and gain enthusiasm in its natural beauty and populace. It enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers.
