Edinburg is a city in Hidalgo County, Texas, United States. The population was 48,465 inhabitants at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Hidalgo County. This city is the home of the Edinburg Coyotes, a minor league baseball team in the United Baseball League.
 
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 96.9 square kilometers. The 96.8 square kilometers of it is land and 0.1 square kilometers of it 0.13 percent is water. In the city the population was spread out with 33.0 percent under the age of 18, 13.1 percent from 18 to 24, 29.8 percent from 25 to 44, 15.9 percent from 45 to 64, and 8.2 percent who were 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females there were 95.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.5 males.
