El Campo is a municipality in Wharton County, Texas, United States. In 2000, the population of the city was 10,945 and an area of 19.3 square kilometers. Wharton County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. In the city the population was spread out with 30.1 percent under the age of 18, 9.5 percent from 18 to 24, 26.2 percent from 25 to 44, 19.4 percent from 45 to 64, and 14.8 percent who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 92.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.8 males.
