Chambersburg is a borough in Franklin County, Pennsylvania, 84 kilometers southwest of Harrisburg in the Cumberland Valley, part of the Great Appalachian Valley. The population was 17,862 inhabitants at the 2000 census. The population stood at 14,852 inhabitants in 1940. Chambersburg is the county seat of Franklin County. It is located between McConnellsburg, Pennsylvania and Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
Chambersburg Mayor is a John A. Redding, Jr. According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 17.8 square kilometers. In the country the population was spread out with 20.8 percent under the age of 18, 9.1 percent from 18 to 24, 26.8 percent from 25 to 44, 20.6 percent from 45 to 64, and 22.7 percent who were 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females there were 81.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 77.1 males.
