Durant

Durant is a city in Cedar County, Iowa, United States, located in the southeastern corner of the county in a tri-county area. Scott County is located just to the east of Durant and Muscatine County is located just to the south of the city. The population was 1,677 inhabitants at the 2000 census. Cedar County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. It is named for the Red Cedar River, which runs through the county, and is the only Iowa county which has a name which is also the name of a tree. As of 2000, the population is 18,187 inhabitants. Its county seat is Tipton, Iowa.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.6 square kilometers. In the city the population was spread out with 26.4 percent under the age of 18, 7.3 percent from 18 to 24, 28.7 percent from 25 to 44, 20.6 percent from 45 to 64, and 17.1 percent who were 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females there were 88.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.6 males.
Durant experiences a boom with day tourists, owing to the clear air, town character with rich culture, high quality of life and conspicuously original history. The picturesque scenery, the majesty of nature, the slow pace of life, and the welcoming nature of its people also combine to make this region one of the most important tourist attractions in United States.
