Camden

The city of Camden is the county seat of Camden County, New Jersey in the United States. It is located just across the Delaware River from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. As of the United States 2000 Census, the city had a total population of 79,904 inhabitants. Fort Nassau, was built by the Dutch West India Company in 1626, and was the first European attempt to settle the area now occupied by Camden. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 26.9 square kilometers. Camden borders Collingswood, Gloucester City, Haddon Township, Pennsauken, and Woodlynne.
In the city the population is quite young with 34.6 percent under the age of 18, 12.0 percent from 18 to 24, 29.5 percent from 25 to 44, 16.3 percent from 45 to 64, and 7.6 percent who were 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females there were 94.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.0 males.
One of the most popular attractions of Camden is the city's waterfront, along the Delaware River. Camden is the home of Rutgers Camden, one of Rutgers' three campuses. Rutgers is the State University of New Jersey.
