Berkeley
The United States of America is a country in North America that extends from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean and shares land borders with Canada and Mexico. The United States is a federal constitutional republic, with its capital in Washington, D.C., District of Columbia.
Berkeley is a city on the east shore of San Francisco Bay in northern California, in the United States. Its neighbors to the south are the cities of Oakland and Emeryville. To the north is the city of Albany and the unincorporated Kensington. The eastern city limits coincide with the county line which generally follows the ridgeline of the Berkeley Hills. Berkeley is located in northern Alameda County. The population of the city Berkeley was 102,743 in the year 2000 with an area 45.9 square kilometers and its population density was 3,792.5 per square kilometers.
The site of today's city of Berkeley was the territory of the Chochen and Huichin band of the Ohlone people when the first Europeans arrived. Remnants of their existence in the area include pits in various rock formations which were used to grind acorns from native oak trees, and a shellmound now mostly leveled and covered up along the shoreline of San Francisco Bay at the mouth of Strawberry Creek. Other artifacts were discovered in the 1950s in the downtown area during the remodeling of a commercial building, near the upper course of the same Strawberry Creek.
In the city the population was spread out with 14.1 percent under the age of 18, 21.6 percent from 18 to 24, 31.8 percent from 25 to 44, 22.3 percent from 45 to 64, and 10.2 percent who were 65 years of age or older.
Berkeley is definitely one of the popular tourist attractions in United States worth paying a visit while touring the country. This place leaves a pleasing and unforgettable memory and justifies the proud cultural tradition of United States.
