Bennington
The United States of America is a country in North America that extends from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean and shares land borders with Canada and Mexico. The United States is a federal constitutional republic, with its capital in Washington, D.C., District of Columbia.
Bennington is a town located in, and one of two shire towns of, Bennington County, Vermont. The population was 15,737 at the 2000 census.
The history of the town of Bennington goes back to 1749, when New Hampshire Governor Benning Wentworth chartered the first town in the territory now known as Vermont, and named it after himself.
The town is known primarily for the Battle of Bennington, fought during the Revolutionary War. On August 16, 1777, Gen. John Stark’s 1,500 New Hampshire Militia defeated 800 troops of German mercenaries, local Loyalists, Canadians and Indians under German Friedrich Baum. German reinforcements under the command of Heinrich von Breymann looked set to reverse the outcome, but were prevented by the arrival of Seth Warner’s Green Mountain Boys; the Vermont militia founded by Ethan Allen.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 110.0 square kilometers. In the town the population was spread out with 23.5 percent under the age of 18, 10.7 percent from 18 to 24, 26.1 percent from 25 to 44, 22.0 percent from 45 to 64, and 17.8 percent who were 65 years of age or older.
Bennington is definitely one of the popular tourist attractions in United States worth paying a visit while touring the country. This place leaves a pleasing and unforgettable memory and justifies the proud cultural tradition of United States.
