Bedford

Bedford is a borough in Bedford County, Pennsylvania, 85 miles west by south of the State Capital, Harrisburg. It is the county seat of Bedford County. Bedford was established in the mid-18th century. The population was 3,141 at the 2000 census.
Bedford was settled about 1751 and laid out in 1766. Bedford was incorporated on March 13, 1795. For many years it was an important frontier military post. The Espy House in Bedford is notable for having been the headquarters of George Washington and his force of 13,000 while putting down the Whiskey Rebellion in 1794.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 2.9 square kilometers. In the borough the population was spread out with 18.8 percent under the age of 18, 7.5 percent from 18 to 24, 26.1 percent from 25 to 44, 24.8 percent from 45 to 64, and 22.8 percent who were 65 years of age or older.
Bedford is also known as the city of best geographical environment and has traced its origins back to prehistoric times. Today, one can also learn about its history, from its earliest times and can also enjoy its natural beauty concealed by the beautiful landscapes.
